Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves: Interactive Digital Book AUG 21 - DEC 21
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves is a classic, well-known children’s story from the Arabian Nights series. I decided to take the first portion of this story and create an interactive digital book for it using HTML and CSS. Every page has some combination of a gif, an animation, and an interactive element that the user must find out by reading the story. For example, when the thieves find the secret cave full of treasures, they say “Open Sesame.” In order for the user to open this cave, they must hover over the speech bubble that says “Open Sesame.”
For this project, I also experimented with different scrolling and visual production elements to provide a more engaging and unique experience with the digital book. For example, the second and third page/scene of the story is connected with a long horizontal scroll to simulate a movie-like change of scene. This digital book is completely illustration-based to attract a younger audience. I drew everything using Adobe Illustrator.
